On May 17, 2020, West Virginia observed Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day following a proclamation by Governor Jim Justice.
Why awareness matters
The proclamation recognized DIPG as a rare childhood brain tumor located in the brainstem and noted the urgent need for greater public awareness and continued research.
It encouraged people across the Mountain State to join the observance, giving families affected by DIPG a public moment of recognition during an especially isolating year.
The governor’s office also included the proclamation in its official May 16, 2020 weekly review. Read the state’s announcement.
